DISCLAIMER AND EXPLANATION FOR STANDARD HOSPITAL CHARGES
Pricing Transparency - What You Should Know
Pecos County Memorial Hospital determines its standard charges for patient services with the use of a chargemaster system, which is a list of charges for the components of patient care that go into every patient's bill. The chargemaster information, by itself, is not commonly used to determine how much patients may need to pay, or to compare what a patient might owe a hospital. These are the baseline rates for services provided at Pecos County Memorial Hospital, which may be used to estimate the cost of your care.
Standard charges shown in the attached file do not necessarily reflect what a patient may pay. Government insurance plans such as Medicare and Medicaid do not pay the chargemaster rates, but rather have their own set rates which hospitals are obligated to accept. Commercial insurance payments are based on contract negotiations with managed care payors and may or may not reflect the standard charges. Patients without commercial insurance or not covered by a government health care plan should contact the hospital prior to a procedure to discuss charges, alternative pricing, and payment terms.
To make the process more transparent, we are pleased to follow CMS (Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services) rules that require all hospitals to make accessible a list of standard charges (known as a chargemaster) for products and services provided at Pecos County Memorial Hospital.
Pecos County Memorial Hospital chargemaster may not reflect what a patient or insurance company pays and is not what the hospital receives as payment from insurance companies.
The charges in Pecos County Memorial Hospital chargemaster does not reflect any discounts negotiated by insurance payers or other payment discounts that may reduce the prices.
Your patient responsibility owed to Pecos County Memorial Hospital will depend upon each patient's health insurance plan benefits. Each health plan may have a different deductible, out of pocket max, and co-pay. For more information about your potential out-of-pocket costs, please contact your insurance provider prior to receiving care.
The chargemaster rates are updated from time to time to accurately reflect the hospital's expenses to operate.
If you are not covered by an individual health plan (uninsured or underinsured), you are encouraged to consult with our business office staff and/or financial assistance counselor's to determine if you qualify for state programs, or the Indigent Program (Pecos County Residents). Our business office staff and/or financial counselor's welcome questions and are available to provide you with assistance.
Please note that Pecos County Memorial Hospital will send you a statement which contains a summary of charges for inpatient or outpatient care you receive. Your hospital charges vary based on the test such as lab tests, x-rays, medications, supplies, services and/or procedures that have been ordered by your physician during each patient's hospital visit.
A complete itemized bill is available to you upon request from our business office staff. Your itemized bill is a detailed bill comprised of varying charges that were incurred during your inpatient or outpatient stay at our facility.
We know that the billing and payment process may seem overwhelming at times and we want to be as helpful as possible. For more complete details, please contact our business office staff or financial assistance counselor at (432)336-2004.
